This filter grid / DE element is a compatible replacement for the Pentair original, supplied as the Complete Element Grid Assembly, 36 Sq. Ft., FNS Plus D.E. Filter. In service it provides the surface that holds the diatomaceous earth cake doing the actual filtering. This is a consumable in practice: the fabric tears and the manifold sockets split, which sends DE powder back into the pool. Ours is built with polypropylene fabric on a rigid frame and dimensionally checked against an OEM sample before tooling is signed off.
