Manual Air Relief Assembly for Pool and Spa Sand Filter — an aftermarket air relief valve dimensioned to drop into Pentair filter tanks without modification. In service it purges trapped air from the top of the filter tank so the vessel fills completely with water. This is a consumable in practice: the stem seizes and the seal leaks, which is both a nuisance drip and a safety concern on a pressure vessel.
