This check valve is a compatible replacement for the Spears original, supplied as the Utility Swing Check Valve, 2-Inch, Socket, EPDM. In service it allows flow in one direction only and prevents backflow into the pump or heater when the system stops. This is a consumable in practice: the flapper hinge fatigues and the seat wears, allowing reverse flow and loss of prime.
